Outcomes Can Depend if Picked up by TPD or DUI
Video Transcribed: What happens when there’s a warrant issued for you in Muskogee Creek Nation? My name’s Ted Hasse. I’m an attorney in Oklahoma practicing in federal and tribal courts.
One thing that I see happen over and over again is folks get picked up on a warrant for Muskogee Creek Nation. They’re going to spend some nights in jail. It’s an unfortunate situation right now, and I think it’s the result of there just being too many cases to manage. If you’re picked up by TPD on a DUI, you’re likely to be out the same night or the same day pretty quickly. If you’re picked up on DUI, but you are a member of a nation, it’s likely you’re going to have to sit around and wait for a little while.
With warrants, is just an unfortunate situation that these warrants get out to local law enforcement. They see there’s a tribal warrant. The defendant gets brought in and they can just sit for a while. So if you find out that you have a warrant with Muskogee Creek Nation, you need to reach out to an attorney and you need to work with them to sort out a way for you to self-surrender such that you don’t have to go sit in a county jail for a long time as a result of some traffic stop.
